Manic: A Memoir
The book that I read by Terry Cheney called Manic: A Memoir portrays Terry Cheney herself, and her story of what it is like to live a life divided among states of hysterical frenzy and severe depression. Cheney makes no excuses and offers no apologies for her port in either state of mind because she wants others to sufficienty learn that she suffers from a mental infirmity, bipolar disorder, over which she has little break. For some people reading this book, there is ignorance in recognizing this mental unhealthiness. Cheney portrays her illness though, in a manner which many, can after reading, calculate what it really means to live with such a dramatic condition. This book is an inte alleviationing look from deep inside the liberty chit of someone who has survived the worst of what bipolar disorder can mold at a person and who is willing to sh are her drives with the rest of us. I came away with a much clearer appreciation for what this illness is like for those who suffer it, and the hope that modern medicine reaches the acme of being able to more consistently treat and control it.
To translate what Cheney is suffering from in this book, one can understand that manic depression, or bipolar disorder as it is usually called these days, affects between 1% to 3% of the population.
