The characters in Unity and Writing in an Age of Silence show who they are and what they stand for. The main characters are both trying to tot up out their inner voices. Paretsky writes a diary about what has happened in her life and the obstacles she has had to overcome. This is common with Unity because Beatrice writes in a diary everyday about what is happening in the town. The girls in Unity, Beatrice, Sissy, and bloody shame are all shown to be very independent. Beatrice takes care of haleness when everyone gets the flu, Sissy thinks that the world is going to end and Mary tries to conciliate hopeful. The women in all the books show a strong company to who they are and what they portray.
Silence
Both of the raws display silence in diametric manners, such as in Unity, Sissy is constantly cosmos silenced by Beatrice in regards to the world ending.
The war is withal being silenced until the young boy, Hart comes to town and tells them the intelligence agency from the trenches that none of the girls were ready to hear. Writing in an Age of Silence focuses on silencing the voice of females. Paretsky shows that in the novel females are forever and a day shut down over the males. Later in the novel its shows that the women start expect the fact that their voices wont be heard. Paretsky was always stuck inside doing the womanly duties, ... the hours I didnt throw in school were at home, cleaning the house, doing dishes, acting as de facto nanny for my youngest brothers (pg 7). She kept silent while her brothers lived a blueprint childhood; she was stuck in an isolated world.
