Achilles was born as a mere mortal. His mother was a sea nymph, and her name was Thetis. Thetis had a reputation for her adultery with mortals and gods. Zeus, the normal of the gods, and Poseidon, god of the sea, both wanted to have Thetis and claim her as there bride. They tried to win her heart constantly, until it was prophesied that Thetis son will be greater and skillier than his father. After hearing this they quickly halt pursuing her because they didnt want a son that might over throw them. Achilles father was a man named Peleus, he was apparently the best man on earth and envied by all mortals. When Achilles was still a baby Thetis took him down to the hellhole and dipped him in the satanic waters of River Styx. This made him acid-fast to everything, except for his ankle. His ankle is his weak spot because when Thetis was dipping him in the river she held him by the ankle and didnt put it in the water.
Thetis would nightly harbor him over the fire to get ride of the mortal elements catching from Peleus, and that in the daytime she would anoint his body with Ambrosia. .
