This way he learned solely 6 letters, and the rest he learned from the white kids. Whenever he saw the white kids he started showing off and apprisal them he knew how to write. They wouldnt believe him, so accordingly he would d ar them to beat him, and he would write all the letters that he knew how to write. The kids would write more letters, and he would then scam them and learn them.



Later his master doubting Thomas started going to school, and since he was sometimes left alone to watch the house, he would then take master Thomass copybooks and write in them what he saw master Thomas was writing, until he learned to write with a similar handwriting to master Thomass.
Inability to read and write limits the person to knowing precisely what he was told. He is not able to inform himself and he needs to rely on what other people place him. This way other people can controlled information that he receives.
